Hatha Yoga Classes

These classes focus on traditional yoga postures and breathing techniques to cultivate clarity of mind and trust in the body. Gently build strength and improve your flexibility through a slower pace and deep holds. Only the most gentle back bends and inversions are introduced, so all levels of practitioner will feel at home, including beginners. You will leave class feeling more physically and mentally relaxed, balanced and grounded. Laela offers this style of yoga class at The Hawthorne Movement Center, and also Tuesdays at noon at Yoga NW.

Laela teaches Hatha Yoga at The Hawthorne Movement Center located at 3942 SE Hawthorne Blvd. in our lovely garden studio. Join our community!

Laela teaches Flow 1 Hatha class at Yoga NW Tuesdays at noon. Yoga NW offers a body positive, inclusive atmosphere in the heart of NW Portland where everyone is welcome.


Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a passive yoga practice that works deeply into the body with longer-held poses, focusing on the lower part of the body. Yin yoga targets the tissues of the body, releasing the fascia, lengthening and appropriately stressing the joints and bones, improving joint mobility. This is not a complex physical practice but the longer held poses can become challenging physically and mentally. Energetically Yin Yoga improves the flow of energy of the body, working with the meridian lines and enhancing the flow of chi (qi), bringing health to the whole body. Yin is a wonderful complement to active physical practices and release from the constant striving and business of life. Opposed to other goal-oriented practices, this practice is one of “allowing” and cultivating inner stillness. 


Laela offers personal modifications to her students so they can practice safely and comfortably. She provides a calm and friendly atmosphere, sharing insights, poetry and other readings for inspiration, encouraging self-acceptance as personal growth.

Private Sessions

The private setting allows for a completely individualized experience, and is beneficial for all students. Based on your goals, we will develop a practice specifically to meet your needs. Laela also offers the healing energy of Reiki, a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation. Reiki can be integrated into the private yoga session or as a stand-alone practice.

Together we can:

  • learn the basics of yoga

  • develop personalized sequences, attuned to your needs

  • build strength and flexibility, reduce stress, and deepen self-awareness

  • focus on alignment

  • expand your home practice

  • practice pranayama and meditation

  • harmonize your subtle energy bodies through Reiki

Yoga can lead to greater self-confidence, a deepening trust in one’s own instincts and wisdom. The practice helps one maintain a sense of strength and serenity, a counterbalance to the stress and worry that can be so all-consuming. Laela will help you deepen your connection to body, mind and spirit.

The first step is to get in touch to set up an appointment. Secondly we will begin the evaluation process – a discussion about your health history, interests and goals. From there we will begin to develop a personal practice just for YOU. Pricing is $60 per hour, sessions can vary in length and frequency.

About Laela

Laela Wilding is a curious and patient practitioner and teacher of yoga. Her Hatha classes follow a slower pace with a focus on alignment to easily access the benefits of each pose, bringing more strength and balance to each student. The Yin classes offer the opportunity for the body to rest and rejuvenate with time for quiet contemplation and deep relaxation. Laela creates an environment that encourages each student to deepen their own practice, free from self-criticism, accessing love and compassion. Her teaching style is enthusiastic, warm, and accessible to students of all levels. Laela completed her 200 hour teacher-training at Portland’s Yoga Bhoga, and is very grateful to her teachers there as well as the loving guidance she has received from master yoga teacher Holiday Johnson.
